In todays discussion of our initial video ideas when combining to the chosen song 'Promise' by Ben Howard we were concerned whether our want for fast pace cutting would fit the melancholy tone of the song. From this I decided to research further quicker but similar songs by this artist we could use instead at this early stage.
B: Update of lesson
All the equipment used would really benefit the quality of the filming for our music video and we would really like to replicate some of the shots in our actual video.
The equipment we used consisted of the fish-eye lens, curved mini motion cam, cam-frame, track & dolly, all in which worked well to create different effects and camera movements which we can now use in our actual music video.
The Task as a whole has allowed us the opportunity to gather an insight into how hard it is to create a music video and how important it is to use the right equipment, planning and leaving enough time to edit our work.
As a group we found that the task was very useful for us to find out the difficulties of lip-syncing and to practice using the great new equipment, which will give us further ideas for shots in our video.

K:Update
New camera equipment practice
Last lesson we tested out a lot of the new equipment such as the dolly's, fish eye lenses and working in the studio with professional lighting when creating a group music video to 'Hey ya'. As well as the task being very amusing we refreshed our memories on filming, capturing and beginning the editing process on Premiere computer software.
From watching the video back complete there are both some successful points and issues which I can make. Firstly the studio lighting worked very well with a variety of colours to create a
professional feel, however our main conclusion was the importance of movement in our frames after a particularly successful shot of fast forward tracking on the schools new dolly. From this I learnt we must consider the rule of thirds
in every shot and the importance of framing as in some areas it was on a slant. We must also aim to reduce camera wobbles and reduce the exposure to too m
uch natural light, increasing the white balance to an undesirable level. However we are very pleased with the use of the new fish eye lenses, dolly and tracking devises as well as using a curved mini motion cam.

K:Ideas for our chosen track
By closely analysing a variety of videos for influences and ideas, particularly those of 'Ben Howards' and 'Little Comets' we have come up with a series of ideas for our mise en scene, camera work and editing style including the props, location and characters.
Our chosen song by Ben Howard 'The Promise' has very strong illustrative lyrics which will allow us to closely link the words to the mise en scene. We hope to create quite an abstract piece emphasising the obsurity of life, having random images of random people such as a large bald and tattooed man sitting on a too small chair holding a tiny bird in his hand with a blank expression. In our music video we aim to create a soft mood when displaying the variety of personalities; the idea there is no 'promise' of what life will bring but everyone differs..
And meet me (meat shot of artist) there (variety of random locations every time this word appears) bundles ( haystacks or opposite of bundles, a lonely figure) of flowers (dead vs alive fresh flowers), we wait through the hours of cold (snow/ winters morning, someone sitting alone)

Every time 'Who am I' is sung different people of different ages and ethnic backgrounds could be shown ending on the final one to reveal the artist.

After researching videos of a the same genre to get ideas in our group we have already brainstomed a number of ideas for our video. Here is my interpretation using our ideas.

This illustrative video by Paulo Nutini aesthetically combines both artist performance and meta narrative by a strong narrative following a couple's marriage. By studying this video I was able to look at the presentation and ideologies surrounding male solo artists in the indie/folk genre. Nutini's video has a authentic grain of voice, displaying his signing voice as an expressive instrument personal to the singer; a similar style to that of Ben Howard's 'The Promise'. Through a highly artistic and illustrative emotional story line Nutini develops his star image over time with the exaggorated use of 'meat shots'.
Nutini successully amplifies the meaning of the track by closely linking the lyrics to the mise en scene; through an anti commercial video. Although Nutini is traditionally stereotypical of a folk singer with soft and romantic lyrics and artistic feel-good mise en scene, he goes against stereotypical men and the dominant ideologies surrounding them; the idea of their businesslike, lazy and aggressive attitude. Paulo Nutini instead sells his band image in a subtle way, linkning the strong narrative back to his passionate singing.

We chose this song because the lyrics suited the style of video and visual ideas in which we had thought of. The track is very long so we are planning to cut out the first minute of the song which is instrumental and the last 45 seconds which is also instrumental.
One particular part of the song which we like is the lyric 'who am i' we feel that this is relevant to our video ideas as we wanted to use a variety of people in our video.
